Almost There

The preparations are nearly all done, (he said confidently), a possible benefit of the enforced imprisonment visited upon us by the current weather. Calculations as to what can and can't be packed have been done. There's nothing like the past experience of draconian airline staff who see it as a matter of pride to find the extra few grams that will take luggage into the penalty area to focus the mind of the airline traveller. The invidious impact of the worst of the budget carriers has lead to degrees of inflexibility that never existed a while ago. Anyway it was with great relief that Sheila greeted the news that her previous understanding that we would only take one case was not so. The second case provided our now expert packing supervisor with more than enough lee way to accommodate everything in our joint wish lists.

The travel logistics seem clear, weather permitting, the daily updates on destination weather are encouraging and we are now operational in more currencies than Thomas Cook. The guides have been acquired and pored over and the sense of anticipation grows as friends and family call to wish us luck. So, with luck, the weekend will see us winging our way to our first port of call, Hong Kong. Unless there are problems on the way, our next update should appear early next week from the former colony after visiting the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in the world. More of that later.
